If only lighthouses could speak

Every lighthouse has its own story that comes out through the recollections of a former lighthouse keeper, often relayed by their relatives or immortalised in the pages of history.

For example the Point Perpendicular Lighthouse on Beecroft Peninsula in Jervis Bay New South Wales, is where a birth took place many years ago.

Lesley Hazell has told us that her father, George Jervis John Anderson, was born at the lighthouse he was born on July 31, 1929.

Arrangements are being made so she may scatter the ashes in October of her recently departed father. More details or the historic lineage are yet to be documented.

This International Lightship Weekend on August the 20th and 21st, the Point Perpendicular Lighthouse along with many hundreds in up to 50 countries help keep alive the bond we have with lighthouse keepers and seafearers of yesteryear.
