Interferer sentenced in court
A 63-year old resident of Hull in Yorkshire England has been convicted of causing deliberate interference by transmissions from his van often parked near the QTH of amateur radio stations.
He pleaded guilty in Hull Crown Court on 22 November of unlawfully using wireless apartus and causing deliberate interference. The radio administration Ofcom told the court the man used the equipment without a licence.
The interference over an amateur repeater that had occurred over a length period of time resulted in the Ofcom deploying its staff to track down the source of interference to a van and laying charges.
The court sentenced the offender to four months imprisonment suspected for 18 months, requires him to wear electronic tagging equipment to enforce a curfew between 7pm and 7am for three months, and ordered forfeiture of his van and radio equipment.
