Tim Allen gets ham licence KK6OTD

It seems that playing the part of a radio amateur on the TV sitcom Last Man Standing has influenced American actor and comedian Tim Allen to become a ham.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) includes in its latest list a US Technicians licence KK6OTD, albeit under his real name of Tim Dick.

He became known for his role as ‘the tool man’ in the Home Improvement series, but also has featured in several popular films, including the Toy Story film series (as the voice of Buzz Lightyear), The Santa Clause film series, and Galaxy Quest.

In the Last Man Standing he stars as Mike Baxter, a sporting goods store owner who is also a make-believe ham operator with the callsign KA0XTT.

The set has been made authentic with the help of a few radio amateurs, with the American Radio Relay League providing many awards and certificates for the series shack wall display.
